SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Several hundred people with roots in the Mormon faith gathered in Salt Lake City yesterday to renounce the church's new policies targeting gays and their children. Billed as a mass resignation by Mormons, people dropped off letters at a nearby church building to have their names removed from the faith's membership rolls. Most had stopped attending church years ago, but wanted to finally cut ties.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — State Sen. Alvin Jackson plans to resign from the Legislature to move closer to family. The Republican from Highland tells KUTV of Salt Lake City he will step down after the session ends in March. A special election will take place sometime next year to fill Jackson's seat.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Charter school enrollment in Utah is continuing to grow, with charters now educating 10 percent of all public school students for the first time ever. Charters now enroll 67,509 students.
WEST VALLEY CITY, Utah (AP) — Police say two men are in the hospital after a knife fight resulted in stabbings in West Valley City. Lt. Mike Christenson tells KSL-TV of Salt Lake City that officers were called to the scene early Saturday. Investigators are trying to determine if the fight was gang-related.
