COLUMBIA, Mo. (AP) — A white college student suspected of posting online threats against people on the campus of the University of Missouri is expected to appear in court Thursday. Hunter Park, a 19-year-old sophomore, allegedly posted that he would kill black students and faculty on the flagship campus in Columbia. He attends the sister campus in Rolla (RAH'-lah), about 75 miles away.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — A standoff has ended violently in San Francisco, where police say officers shot and killed a man who was pointing a rifle at a hospital from atop an adjacent construction site. An official says the unidentified man opened fire on officers responding to reports of an active shooter near California Pacific Medical Center's St. Luke's campus. Officials say three officers confronted him at the building site where a new hospital is under construction and fatally shot him.

BIRMINGHAM, Ala. (AP) — An Alabama woman who faces charges in connection with the death of an infant is disputing the allegations. That's according to her lawyer. Police say Katerra Marsha Lewis and a friend left an 8-year-old boy to watch over five younger children while the women went to a nightclub. The boy allegedly beat the infant when she wouldn't stop crying. He faces charges as well but legal experts say the case will be challenging because of his age.

AKRON, Ohio (AP) — Investigators have recovered the cockpit voice recorder from an Ohio plane crash that killed nine people on Tuesday. The National Transportation Safety Board also says it has reviewed surveillance video that shows the plane seconds before it hits an unoccupied apartment building in Akron. Nobody on the ground was hurt.

DALLAS (AP) — Federal authorities say three different planes were hit by a laser beam coming from an area near Dallas. The Federal Aviation Administration says it happened Wednesday evening. All three planes were inbound to Dallas Love Field. Two were passenger jets, the other a private plane. A law enforcement helicopter was sent to investigate.
