HURRICANE, Utah (AP) — Investigators say a house fire in Hurricane that killed a 57-yearold woman and her dog may have started when the victim fell asleep while smoking.
Barbara Smiley was found dead inside her home after the blaze Monday.
Investigators say the fire started near the bed where she had been lying, leading them to believe she fell asleep while smoking.
A 40-year-old man escaped the blaze and was taken to the hospital. Police Sg.t Brandon Buell says the bedridden woman had health problems and could not move without assistance.
