OGDEN, Utah (AP) — A 23-year-old Holladay woman who pleaded guilty to stabbing her girlfriend 46 times will serve at least 16 years and up to life in prison. Victoria Mendoza laid her head on a table during a sentencing hearing today in Ogden as the family of 21-year-old Tawnee Baird spoke.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Scientists are kicking off a study that will measure nutrient levels in Utah Lake and investigate the effects they have on recreation, aquatic life and agriculture. Utah Division of Water Quality assistant director Erica Gaddis told the Salt Lake Tribune that it's routine to conduct lake health assessments, but the state is taking a more in-depth look at Utah Lake.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — U.S. Rep. Mia Love is returning $537 in taxpayer money she received for a flight she didn't take. The Salt Lake Tribune reports Love was reimbursed for flights from Washington to Utah on two consecutive days in February. Love's office says she missed the first flight but was charged by Delta Air Lines for both trips and sought reimbursement for both.
DENVER (AP) — Southwestern Colorado officials are touring toxic cleanup sites this week to see if the federal Superfund program is the best way to fix the Gold King Mine and other sites spilling wastewater into rivers. Three million gallons of wastewater gushed out of the Gold King in August, polluting rivers in Colorado, New Mexico and Utah.
