SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The director of Utah's Office of Outdoor Recreation is resigning to work in the private sector.

Brad Petersen has lead Utah's outdoor recreation office since August 2013. He's the first person to hold the job, which was created under Gov. Gary Herbert's broad plan to promote outdoor recreation in Utah.

The Governor's Office of Economic Development announced Petersen's decision to step down on Monday.

He will leave in December to become the chief operating officer of a tech startup that helps building owners and operators monitor their energy consumption.

His replacement has not yet been named.
