SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (AP) — The head of the joint committee investigating the Russian plane crash that killed 224 people in Egypt's Sinai says a noise was heard in the last second of the cockpit voice recording. He tells reporters in Cairo that an analysis of the noise is underway to identify its nature. The British government and U.S. officials have said intelligence suggests the plane was downed by a bomb.

BERLIN (AP) — The Greek coast guard says it and European Union border agency Frontex have rescued a total of 383 migrants attempting the short but perilous crossing from Turkey to eastern Greek islands. Officials say there were six separate rescue operations this morning involving nine boats full with passengers. There were no known fatalities.

MIAMI (AP) — The Coast Guard has suspended its search for a man who jumped onto a lifeboat on the side of a cruise ship before he plunged into the ocean. Officials say an airplane and helicopters have searched an area covering 931 square nautical miles near the Bahamas. Fellow passengers watched in horror yesterday as the man clung to the lifeboat for more than a minute. He's been identified as a 35-year-old man from Brazil.

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Firefighters have put out a fire at the Paris Las Vegas Hotel & Casino. Clark County fire officials say about 45 firefighters responded early today and determined that the fire was coming from a trash chute. It was confined to that area and there were no injuries or damage to the building.

NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump hosts "Saturday Night Live" tonight, amid continuing controversy over earlier remarks about immigrants that cost him his role on "The Apprentice." NBC has faced pressure this week from a coalition of advocacy groups calling for Trump to be dropped from SNL for what one spokesman termed his "racist demagoguery." But the Republican presidential candidate has welcomed the controversy, predicting it would only boost his audience.
