PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) — Clark College in Vancouver plans to eliminate nearly a dozen programs as part of an effort to deal with dwindling enrollment.
KGW-TV reports (http://goo.gl/ektVJr ) interim vice president Dr. Tim Cook issued a statement Tuesday saying that a new proposal calls for the reduction of 12 departments and programs and the removal of 11 more. The proposal would cut more than $2.2 million from the school's budget.
The proposed cuts would eliminate the French Department, the Humanities Department and the certified nursing assistant program. The number of students in the nursing program would be reduced from 48 to 32.
Cook says the cuts are necessary to deal with a 19 percent drop in full-time enrollment since the 2010-11 school year.
