MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Enrollment at the University of Montana dropped this fall more than suggested by preliminary reports, with a 6.5 percent drop rather than 4.3 percent.
The Missoulian reports (http://bit.ly/1XSDhmn ) that as a result of the final numbers, the university will receive $3 million less in revenue. Vice President for Integrated Communications Peggy Kuhr says the school will need to adjust expenditures.
On Wednesday, Kuhr said UM came within 1 percent of its forecast, with officials last spring projecting fall enrollment of 13,181. The actual number of students in 13,044.
UM cites numerous reasons for the decline in enrollment, including a decreasing number of Montana high school graduates, fewer international students and student loan debt.
