MOSCOW (AP) — The head of Egypt's Sharm el-Sheikh airport is being replaced amid growing international concern that the Russian plane which crashed shortly after departing the Sinai resort area was downed by a bomb. All 224 aboard the jet were killed in the Saturday morning crash. U.S. and British officials say they suspect the plane may have been brought down by a bomb.
HANOI, Vietnam (AP) — China and Vietnam are trying to mend ties strained over territorial disputes in the South China Sea. Chinese President Xi Jinping (shee jihn-peeng) is beginning a two-day visit to Vietnam. China's official news agency says more than 10 cooperation agreements are expected to be signed. But analysts say Xi's visit is unlikely to mark much progress in addressing territorial tensions.
ROUND LAKE BEACH, Ill. (AP) — Lawyers for the family of an Illinois officer who authorities say staged his own death to look like others killed him say the family has no comment on today's finding and continues to cope with his death. Authorities say Fox Lake Police Lt. Charles Joseph Gliniewicz (GLIHN'-uh-wihts) shot himself Sept. 1 because he feared an embezzlement scheme might be exposed.
SAN DIEGO (AP) — A gunman who engaged police in a standoff from his former girlfriend's rooftop apartment in San Diego today is in custody. Titus Colbert surrendered after a more than five-hour standoff that interrupted air traffic at the San Diego airport. Colbert's ex-girlfriend had called police to report that she feared the suspect was inside her home. No injuries were reported.
WASHINGTON (AP) — An injectable drug from GlaxoSmithKline will now be available to treat severe asthma attacks. The Food and Drug Administration has cleared Nucala for some patients 12 years and older. The genetically engineered antibody is grown in cells from Chinese hamsters and works by reducing levels of white blood cells that contribute to asthma.
