ROSWELL, N.M. (AP) — Authorities say a Roswell High School teacher has been arrested for allegedly having sex with a teenage student.

Roswell police say 23-year-old Kellie Hurst was taken into custody Tuesday at her apartment on a Magistrate Court warrant.

They say she's being held on suspicion of two counts of fourth-degree criminal sexual penetration and one misdemeanor count of distribution of sexually oriented materials to minors.

Hurst is being held on a $10,000 surety bond in the Chaves County Detention Center.

It was unclear Wednesday if she has a lawyer yet.

Police say the male student was 16 at the time the alleged sexual incidents began in September.

They say Hurst also is accused of sending the student inappropriate pictures of herself.
