LAKE CHARLES, La. (AP) — The Calcasieu Parish School Board has voted unanimously to give all school system employees a one-time supplement in their November paychecks.

The supplement — with a total cost of $6.1million — will come from excess sales tax money in the general fund. Employees with active status as of Nov. 13 will receive the supplement.

The American Press reports (http://bit.ly/1eOXZNb) Superintendent Karl Bruchhaus told the board Tuesday the supplement comes as there is still uncertainty as to whether the system can afford to give all employees a raise.

Those employees based on the teachers' salary schedule will receive $1,100, and those who are not will receive $750. There are 3,098 employees based on the teachers' salary schedule and 1,784 employees who are not.
