SHARM EL-SHEIKH, Egypt (AP) — Aviation officials still don't know why a Russian airliner with 224 people aboard crashed in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula on Saturday. But Moscow's top aviation official says the Metrojet A321-200 had broken up at high altitude. He says the large area over which fragments of the aircraft were scattered indicated that it disintegrated while flying high.
ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Greek authorities are confirming that the bodies of four more migrants, all men, have been recovered north of the island of Farmakonissi in the eastern Aegean Sea. Four others were rescued and seven are missing. This brings the total number of dead recovered Sunday in the Aegean Sea to 19, in three separate incidents.
MIAMI (AP) — Investigators are still awaiting video confirmation that the wreckage found Saturday in 15,000 feet of water east of the Bahamas is the missing cargo ship El Faro. If it is, an effort will be made to recover the "black box." Sonar indicates the ship landed upright on the ocean floor. El Faro, with 33 crew on board, was lost Oct. 1 during Hurricane Joaquin.
WINSTON-SALEM, N.C. (AP) — School officials at Winston-Salem State University say a suspected gunman is on the loose and are urging visitors to the North Carolina campus to stay away. The university says a shooting early today near the dormitories left one student dead and another wounded. The historically black college was celebrating its homecoming weekend.
OPELIKA, Ala. (AP) — A man is dead after being shot by a police officer in the Alabama community of Opelika. Police tell AL.com that an officer attempted to pull over a driver late Saturday but the man refused to follow orders and a short chase ensued.. Police say the shooting occurred when the officer tried to take the driver into custody after the man stopped at a house.
