SELINSGROVE, Pa. (AP) — Pennsylvania's Susquehanna University is getting a new nickname.
The Board of Trustees on Monday voted to replace the "Crusader" nickname. A new name and mascot will be chosen after consulting with a committee comprised of alumni, faculty, students and staff.
President L. Jay Lemons over the summer discussed the nickname and mascot with key members of the university's community.
The Daily Item (http://bit.ly/1Mp4OKj ) reports critics felt the Crusader nickname was at odds with the school's increasing diversity and its commitment to embracing difference.
