BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Arguments begin today in Boise for a lawsuit involving inadvertent trapping of federally protected Canada lynx and that could restrict trapping across much of Idaho. The lawsuit says Idaho is violating the Endangered Species Act by allowing recreational trapping that sometimes catches the seldom-seen predator. The Center for Biological Diversity and three other groups want to limit the size of foothold traps in lynx habitat and require daily checks by trappers.
TWIN FALLS, Idaho (AP) — Crews are working to plant sagebrush seedlings in areas of the Twin Falls District of the Bureau of Land Management that were burned by wildland fires The Times-News reports that Lucky Peak Nursery has just completed packing 538,000 seedlings to send off to be planted. Crews started planting seedlings Oct. 19 near the Nevada and Idaho border.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho soldier sentenced for the thrill-killing of an Afghan civilian has been released from prison. KTVB-TV reports that 25-year-old Andrew Holmes flew home to Boise where he was greeted by dozens of friends and relatives at the Boise Airport. Holmes was one of five soldiers from Joint Base Lewis-McChord south of Seattle arrested in Afghanistan in 2010 after prosecutors said they killed three civilians for sport.
MISSOULA, Mont. (AP) — Authorities in Idaho say skeletal remains found near Bonner's Ferry are those of a Libby man who had been missing for more than a year. The Missoulian reports that the Boundary County coroner has not announced a cause of death for 32-year-old William Tebby.
