BOISE, Idaho (AP) — The Idaho State Board of Education has once again freed ninth graders from undergoing the newest standardized tests used to measure English language arts and math proficiency. The board unanimously approved a one-year waiver. The new tests are aligned with new teaching standards — known as the Idaho Common Core — that state lawmakers adopted in 2011. Idaho school districts have been teaching the new standards since 2013.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — State officials are looking at possible changes to grazing fees on 1.7 million acres of endowment land. The Idaho Land Board started the yearlong process that could result in changes to a rate formula that has been in place since 1992. The schedule calls for an advisory group to provide the Land Board with possible alternatives next spring followed by public meetings and comments, with a final decision in the fall.

KETCHUM, Idaho (AP) — A judge has ruled that a jury will not hear about a 12-year commitment to a psychiatric hospital in the trial of a man accused of murdering a Camas County man in 2003. The Idaho Mountain Express reports that prosecutor asked the court to bar information about Harley Park's commitment, saying evaluations during his stay have no bearing on Park's sanity at the time of the crime.

BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Authorities say a woman is in critical condition after firefighters rescued her from a burning home in Meridian. KTVB-TV reports that firefighters arrived to find the attic in flames with smoke filling the residence. The fire has been ruled an accident, but investigators aren't sure how it started.
