JOHNSON CITY, N.Y. (AP) — Police say a man set fire to a New York apartment building overnight, killing two boys and leaving two women with severe burns.

Police in Johnson City say 38-year-old Dwight Burton is accused of setting the fire Monday morning. Firefighters were called to the three-story multiple-family home shortly before 2 a.m.

Two brothers, age 3 and 4, were trapped on the third floor.

Officials say two women who jumped out a third-story window are in critical condition at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.

Johnson City Police Chief Brent Dodge says Burton had once been in a relationship with one of the women.

Dodge says Burton was arraigned on first-degree murder and arson charges and sent to the Broome County Jail.

It's unclear if Burton has a lawyer to comment.
