GARDNERVILLE, Nev. (AP) — A Minden man who was wounded in a gunfire exchange with sheriff's deputies has died. The Douglas County Sheriff's Office says 27-year-old Jarek Kozlowski died Friday at a hospital, where he was being treated for a gunshot wound. However, deputies say Kozlowski died from respiratory failure that was unrelated to his shooting injuries. A medical examiner will determine the cause of death. Investigators say Kozlowski was suspected of fatally shooting his mother at a home early Tuesday.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police are investigating an overnight shooting of a man on a public bus. KTNV-TV in Las Vegas reports the man was riding the bus on Nellis Boulevard and Desert Inn Road when he was struck by gunfire around 1:30 a.m. yesterday. Authorities say the man was taken to Sunrise Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. Investigators are trying to figure out where the shots came from and whether the victim was a random target.
RENO, Nev. (AP) — Advocates are worried Nevada isn't paying enough to fund autism intervention through Medicaid. The Reno Gazette Journal reports a state program starting Jan. 1 will pay an hourly reimbursement rate of $29.50 to hire and train Registered Behavioral Health Technicians who work with autistic children. There are over 1,870 autistic children in Nevada. Applied Behavioral Analysis services will provide one-on-one early intervention treatment. Reno Republican state Sen. Ben Kieckhefer said he's worried a low rate will mean a lack of providers.
LAS VEGAS (AP) — Las Vegas police have released the names of the SWAT officers who were involved in the fatal shooting of a woman who opened fire on them from a stolen car. A police statement said yesterday that officers Zachary Adam, Jair Brown, Dewane Ferrin and William Marx are all on routine paid administrative leave, pending a review of the incident. According to police, 50-year-old Linda Lee Lush was seen driving a sedan erratically Thursday morning before she stopped in a shopping center parking lot near Jones Boulevard and Spring Mountain Road.
