JERUSALEM (AP) — Shootings of Palestinians in Jerusalem and the West Bank have proved fatal. Police spokeswoman Luba Samri says a 16-year-old Palestinian was shot and killed after he drew a knife on officers when they approached him in Jerusalem and asked for identification. Earlier today, in the West Bank city of Hebron, Israel's military says an Israeli pedestrian shot a Palestinian who tried to stab him. The alleged attacker later died.
AUSTIN, Texas (AP) — Firefighters are optimistic they can make more progress against a destructive rural Texas wildfire if they get the favorable weather that's been forecast. The wildfire has destroyed about 50 structures, mostly homes, and consumed more than 7 miles of scorched and bone-dry forestland. It's now 40 percent contained.
BALTIMORE (AP) — A Friday night crash between a large van and an SUV has injured 13 people, including six children in Baltimore. Fire department spokesman Samuel Johnson tells WBAL-TV the crash happened around 9:20 p.m. Friday on the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Bridge, also known as Hanover Street Bridge. He says one person had to be extracted from a vehicle after firefighters arrived. The conditions of the 13 patients were not released.
HYDERABAD, India (AP) — A road accident in southern India has taken at least 15 lives. Officials say a mini-bus headed for a wedding collided with another bus and both vehicles were speeding. Ten others were injured in the head-on collision that occurred early Saturday. India has the world's deadliest roads and most crashes are blamed on reckless driving, poorly maintained roads and aging vehicles.
MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Residents in flood-prone areas of the northern Philippines are being advised to seek higher ground ahead of an approaching typhoon. Disaster officials say heavy rains are expected to inundate many areas on the main northern island of Luzon even before the typhoon makes landfall early tomorrow.
