SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah lawmaker who pleaded guilty to fraud and resigned has been booked into jail and released.
Salt Lake County Jail spokeswoman Sgt. Cammie Skogg says Justin J. Miller reported to the jail Thursday night.
A judge last week ordered Miller to set up a time to be processed at the jail after he pleaded guilty on Oct. 9. He acknowledged taking about $24,000 in campaign money from his former boss, the mayor of Salt Lake County.
Miller, 35, says he wrote a check to himself in 2014 while he was campaign manager for Mayor Ben McAdams to pay for event catering but never reimbursed the campaign.
His attorney Steven Shapiro says Miller is expected to get probation if he repays the money before his Dec. 18 sentencing.
Miller, a Democrat, resigned from Utah's House of Representatives last week.
