SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, Calif. (AP) — Authorities have identified the two San Francisco Bay Area people who were killed when a single-engine plane crashed next to a house that caught fire on the south end of Lake Tahoe.
The Lake Tahoe News reports the owner and pilot of the Beech 35 Bonanza was 73-year-old Conrad Yu of Oakley. He died in Saturday night's crash in South Lake Tahoe along with the lone passenger, 66-year-old Mary Choy of San Francisco.
Witnesses said the aircraft sounded like it was having trouble shortly after it took off from Lake Tahoe Airport at about 5:40 p.m., banked left and struck a tree next to the two-story house less than a mile from the airport.
The plane erupted into flames that spread to the house. Two people and a dog inside the home escaped without injury.
