ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — The 26-year-old man who gunned down classmates at an Oregon community college spared a student and gave that person, whom he called the "lucky one," something to deliver to authorities. That's according to the mother of a witness. Although, police aren't saying, a law enforcement official says a manifesto of several pages has been recovered.

ROSEBURG, Ore. (AP) — The father of the gunman who killed nine people at a community college in Oregon believes gun laws should change. Ian Mercer, the father of Christopher Sean Harper-Mercer, tells CNN that there's talk about gun control after shootings such as the one in Oregon but nothing is done. The father, who lives in California, also says he didn't know about his son's guns.

NEW YORK (AP) — Fire officials say a dozen people have been hurt in the crash of a New York City transit bus. A spokeswoman for the Metropolitan Transportation Authority says the bus continued moving after colliding with a car and crashed into a home at a nearby intersection. It happened Saturday evening in Queens. A fire department official says all of the injuries appear minor.

MIAMI (AP) — The U.S. National Hurricane Center says Joaquin remains an "extremely dangerous" storm heading on a northeastward forecast path toward Bermuda. The center says a hurricane warning has been issued for Bermuda. Forecasters say the Category 4 storm is centered about 385 miles south of Bermuda. It has sustained top winds of 130 mph.

BEIJING (AP) — Tens of thousands of people are being evacuated from coastal areas in southern China as a strong typhoon moves toward the mainland, bringing powerful winds and heavy rain. The storm is heading toward Guangdong province, just north of the resort island of Hainan. It's expected to make landfall Sunday afternoon. Sustained winds are 112 mph at its center
