Doctors say a seven-year-old Sacramento, California girl is in good shape after a stray .22 caliber struck her in the head.
Yamilet Leon was with her uncle and brother on Monday when they heard gunshots.
Seconds after hearing the gunfire, Leon said that her ear hurt, and that the pain felt like a needle.
The girl's mother, Maria Calderon, noticed the bullet wound when she came home.
It's unknown how the bullet came in contact with Leon, but police said with Fourth of July just around the corner, people may be randomly firing bullets into the air.
"It's something we are trying to get out to the public to avoid these type of incidents and prevent tragedies from occurring," said Konrad VonSchoeck of the Sacramento Police Department.
The bullet, meanwhile, will need to stay in Leon's head until it can be removed after the holiday weekend.
