SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — The Utah branch of Planned Parenthood is set to ask a judge to stop the governor's order cutting off their federal funding. The organization sued the state yesterday, saying Gov. Gary Herbert's action was unconstitutional and based on unfounded allegations. The governor's move came after the release of secretly recorded videos by a California anti-abortion group showing Planned Parenthood officials describing how they provide fetal tissue from abortions for medical research.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A judge has scheduled a May trial date in a pay-to-play case against former Utah Attorney General Mark Shurtleff. The date was set yesterday but Shurtleff's lawyer said it could be postponed. State prosecutors are fighting with their federal counterparts to get evidence leftover from a 2013 investigation of Shurtleff by the U.S. Attorney's Office and Department of Justice.

SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — A Utah family who says they were beaten by a crowd of drunken revelers at Snowbird's Oktoberfest is suing the ski resort. The lawsuit says that Snowbird doesn't do enough to control the alcohol at the festival, and the event has become a kind of Rocky Mountain spring break.

ARCHES NATIONAL PARK, Utah (AP) — Arches National Park officials are asking visitors not to throw coins in ephemeral pools, reminding them that desert potholes are not wishing wells. KSL-TV reports that park rangers found a number of coins Sept. 22, they believe they were left there by passing hikers.
