COLUMBIA, Md. (AP) — Authorities in Maryland say at least six townhouses are uninhabitable after an explosion and fire that injured a gas worker investigating a reported leak and a person in one home.
Maria Hogg of the Howard County Fire Department said Wednesday night's blast was so powerful that workers are pulling debris from nearby trees on Thursday.
Fire officials say the worker who was hurt was treated and released and a second person was taken to a hospital with smoke inhalation.
Baltimore Gas and Electric spokeswoman Rhea Marshall says the worker went to the Columbia home after a gas odor report around 7 p.m. Fire officials say the explosion was reported at 7:19 p.m. and crews found the blaze spreading from one engulfed home.
Damage is estimated at $2 million.
