ROCKFORD, Ill. (AP) — Students at a Rockford community college are missing more class after a faculty union rejected a five-year labor contract offer.
The Rockford Register Star (http://bit.ly/1FXnk4c ) reports that classes at Rock Valley College are being canceled for a fourth day on Monday after the vote by the 160-member faculty association.
A major sticking point has been a proposal that calls for union members to pay more for their health insurance. The union rejected a mediator's compromise that would have given faculty more money toward the end of the five-year contract but required them to pay more for health insurance in the first two years of the contract.
The two sides return to the bargaining table on Monday.
The previous contract expired June 30.
