WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has paid tribute to the women of the civil rights movement. Speaking to the Congressional Black Caucus Foundation in Washington, Obama said black women are the ones who strategized boycotts and organized marches. Obama also invoked his wife, Michelle, in talking about challenges facing black women.

MACKINAC ISLAND, Mich. (AP) — Former tech CEO Carly Fiorina, hailed for her performance at the second GOP debate, pitched herself as a "fearless fighter" to Michigan Republicans. In an address to the Mackinac Republican Leadership Conference, Fiorina took a subtle dig at rival Donald Trump, saying that leadership isn't defined by position, title or the size of someone's helicopter or "ego."

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Best-selling author Jackie Collins has died in Los Angeles. Her publicist says Collins died after a six-year battle with breast cancer. She was 77. Unlike her older sister Joan Collins, Jackie Collins chose to document L.A. lives in her pulpy, page-turning fiction. In a statement, Collins' family said she lived "a wonderfully full life."

HAVANA (AP) — Pope Francis faces a busy first full day in Cuba tomorrow. It begins with a Mass in Revolution Plaza followed by a closed meeting with Raul Castro and a possible luncheon with Fidel Castro. The afternoon brings a vespers service and Francis' first encounter with Cuban young people.

NEW YORK (AP) — A New York auction house says it has sold the first recording contract ever signed by the Beatles for over $90,000. The winning bidder was unidentified. The 1961 contract was for a recording of "My Bonnie Lies Over the Ocean." Then-Beatles drummer Pete Best signed the contract along with John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison.
