HILDALE, Utah (AP) — Hildale Mayor Philip Barlow says searchers are hoping to find a 6-year-old boy after flash flooding killed 12 others, including the child's mother, aunts, siblings and cousins. Barlow says crews continue to search for 6-year-old Tyson Lucas Black. Three of the women who died in the polygamous community are sisters and two are married to the same man, Joseph N. Jessop.
SALT LAKE CITY (AP) — Utah grade schools are improving their standardized testing scores, with more schools getting A and B grades while many previously failing campuses are improving. Scores released earlier this month show more students met benchmarks for their grade levels in math, English and science. The results led to improved scores in school grades, PACE Report Cards and School Federal Accountability Reports.
ANCHORAGE, Alaska (AP) — A 25-year-old man from Utah is among the seven survivors of a float plane crash in Alaska. Three people died in the crash. One of the survivors is identified as Seth Hofland of Utah. His hometown wasn't immediately available. Authorities say some of those on board were guides.
WASHINGTON (AP) — The head of the Environmental Protection Agency is dismissing complaints by Republican lawmakers that her agency downplayed the seriousness of a toxic mine spill that fouled rivers in three Western states, including Utah. In Washington today, EPA Administrator Gina McCarthy called the spill caused by her agency "tragic and unfortunate."
