MIAMI (AP) — Police fatally shot a man during a confrontation with officers in in southwest Miami-Dade County.
A Miami-Dade Police news release says officers were dispatched to a home around 9:40 p.m. Tuesday following reports that a man had threatened to harm himself. When the officers arrived at the home, they were told that 51-year-old Jorge Suarez-Ruiz had left in a Toyota Camry.
Police say the family confirmed the threats and told officers that Suarez-Ruiz was known to carry a firearm.
Officers located the vehicle nearby. Officials say that when officers attempted to stop him, the man refused and led them back to his house.
According to police, a confrontation took place and shots were fired. Suarez-Ruiz died at the scene.
The Florida Department of Law Enforcement is investigating.
