RENO, Nev. (AP) — The Washoe County School District has seen a record graduation rate of 75 percent this year, an increase of 2 percentage points from 2014.

Superintendent Traci Davis announced the rate Monday at Hug High School, where the graduation rate rose 12 percentage points in one year to 73 percent. More than 3,400 students received diplomas this year across the county.

Since 2012, graduation rates for black students have risen 24 percentage points to 66 percent; rates for Latino and Hispanic students have risen 14 percentage points to 67 percent; rates for children in transition rose 16 points to 53 percent; and graduation rates for children living in poverty rose 12 points to 65 percent.

The graduation rate increases come under a district-wide initiative started in 2011.
