OGDEN, Utah (AP) — Authorities say two men were injured, one fatally, in a car crash shortly after allegedly shoplifting beer from a 7-Eleven in Ogden.
Police in Ogden say a witness reported shortly after 10:30 p.m. Saturday that 21-year-old Daniel Hernandez and another man had taken beer from the convenience store and fled in a pickup truck.
According to police, officers then received reports of an accident involving a truck that matched the suspects' vehicle.
Investigators say the pickup struck a guardrail after failing to negotiate a curve.
Police say both occupants weren't wearing seatbelts and were thrown from the vehicle.
Hernandez, of Ogden, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other suspect, whose name is being withheld, was hospitalized in critical condition.
Police say alcohol was also a factor in the incident.
