BLACKSBURG, Va. (AP) — A former administrator who sued Virginia Tech over his demotion has a new job at the school.
The Roanoke Times (http://bit.ly/1EKfQ9i ) reports that Virginia Tech has named Harold "Skip" Garner director of the newly created Office of Medical Informatics Translation, Training and Ethics to settle the lawsuit.
Under the settlement, Garner will serve in his new position for four years and will not be eligible for re-appointment. He also will resign from his tenured professorship.
The university replaced Garner as director of its Virginia Bioinformatics Institute in 2012, following a 2011 audit of the institute's operations.
Garner's lawsuit said he was demoted without due process.
The university says the new office will focus on pioneering research, training the next generation of scientists in the field, and facilitating entrepreneurship.
