NEW YORK (AP) — The rocky ride continues on Wall Street. Stocks plunged as a report showed Chinese manufacturing fell to a three-year low last month. The Dow dropped 469 points, the S&P 500 fell 58 and the Nasdaq slid 140. Oil prices also fell sharply, with traders worried that China's weakening growth may mean lower demand for crude. U.S. oil sank almost 8 percent.

FOX LAKE, Ill. (AP) — A massive manhunt is under way for a group of men believed to be involved in the killing of a police officer in northern Illinois. Lt. Charles Gliniewicz (GLIHN'-uh-wihtz) was found dead after radioing dispatchers to say he was chasing three men on foot through the village of Fox Lake. People in the town known for its outdoor activities have been urged to stay home while authorities search for the men. The local commuter train has been halted and officers have been taking residents' dogs out for them so they'll stay inside.

COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) — No prison time for a white former police chief who shot and killed an unarmed black man four years ago in South Carolina. Richard Combs will spend a year on house arrest now that prosecutors dropped the murder charge against him in exchange for a plea of misconduct in office. Combs was on trial for the killing twice already, and both cases ended with hung juries.

MOREHEAD, Ky. (AP) —It's a "heaven or hell" issue says the Kentucky county clerk who's refused to issue marriage licenses for the two months since same sex marriage was legalized. Couples who've been trying to get married in Rowan County showed up at Clerk Kim Davis' office today, hours after the Supreme Court rejected her request for a delay. One couple demanded to talk to Davis, and told her they wouldn't leave until they got a license. She replied it would be a long day for them.

LOS ANGELES (AP) — Vice President Joe Biden will be among Stephen Colbert's first guests on "The Late Show." CBS says the country's second in command will join the CEO of Uber and country singer Toby Keith on Sept. 10th episode of the show. Colbert takes over hosting duties from David Letterman starting Sept. 8.
