AKRON, Ohio (AP) — The University of Akron is thinking about creating a new main entrance that would go through some of the sports fields on campus.

A school spokesman says discussions about the project are very preliminary.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports (http://bit.ly/1LBQr1e ) that artists' renderings show the campus track and its baseball field being replaced with green space and one or two football fields.

The school has been discussing more than $11 million worth of campus improvements for several months.

About $3 million would be needed to relocate the campus track to make way for the new main entrance.

One university professor questioned the expenses given that the university announced $40 million in cuts this summer that include eliminating the baseball program and more than 200 positions.
