MURFREESBORO, Tenn. (AP) — A fraternity chapter at Middle Tennessee State University has been suspended by the national fraternity while a sexually suggestive sign placed outside an off-campus house is investigated.

The Daily News Journal in Murfreesboro (http://on.dnj.com/1LvA3Q0 ) reported that a statement from the university said the Theta-Omega chapter of Sigma Pi had a banner that was reportedly taken down by fraternity leadership 30 minutes after it first went up.

The statement said the sign, which read "Freshman Girls Info Center," was inconsistent with university values.

Sigma Pi's national office said the fraternity condemns use of sexist or demeaning signs and that the responsible students will face disciplinary action.

University spokesman Jimmy Hart said the school will investigate.

A fraternity at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Virginia, was suspended Monday in a similar case.
