PARIS (AP) — Three Americans are being called heroes for subduing and disarming a man who opened fire on passengers riding a train from Amsterdam to Paris. One serves in the Air Force, another recently served in Afghanistan in the National Guard, another is studying physical therapy in Sacramento. One is hospitalized with stab wounds but the Pentagon says they are not life-threatening. Officials say the gunman was Moroccan.
BANGKOK (AP) — New surveillance video may show a second bomber from Tuesday's attacks in Bangkok. Video leaked to Thai media shows a man in a blue shirt placing a bag on a riverside walkway, then kicking it into the water shortly after the explosion at a shrine several miles away killed 20 people. An explosion took place in the water canal near a busy pier without hurting anyone. It remains unclear if the man's actions had anything to do with either explosion
SAN ANTONIO (AP) — A federal judge in California is reaffirming her earlier order to the government to release immigrant children from family detention centers "without unnecessary delay," along with their mothers when possible. In a filing late Friday, California U.S. District Judge Dolly Gee refused the government's request to reconsider her previous ruling in late July. Attorneys for the government are reviewing the order.
CARACAS, Venezuela (AP) — A popular Venezuelan border crossing with Colombia remains closed by order of Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro. He's extending the closure indefinitely as part of an attempt to reassert control in a notoriously lawless where three army officers were shot. He's also declared a 60-day state of emergency in several western cities.
MIAMI (AP) — Hurricane Danny is down to a Category 2 storm. The hurricane is far out in the Atlantic and no threat to land. It had been a Category 3.
