BEAVER, Pa. (AP) — A western Pennsylvania woman has been sentenced to jail for pulling her 6-year-old daughter's hair so hard it separated the girl's scalp from her skull and caused internal bleeding.
The Beaver County Times (http://bit.ly/1NHhcBz ) reports that 26-year-old Brittany Ruck of Conway was sentenced Wednesday.
Ruck pleaded no contest in July to aggravated assault of a child. Police say Ruck was upset at the girl last summer because she couldn't count to 12.
Ruck told the judge: "It's an unfortunate event. I love my daughter."
The judge imposed a sentence of 11 months, 29 days to 23 months, 29 days in jail. That enabled Ruck to avoid state prison, which is reserved for sentences of more than two years.
She has terminated her parental rights to the girl and has supervised visits with her other two children.
