ATLANTA (AP) — Prosecutors say a Georgia woman pleaded guilty to lying when she bought a gun that her boyfriend used to kill a police officer in Nebraska.
Federal prosecutors in Atlanta say 26-year-old Jalita Johnson in April bought a Glock semiautomatic gun, a 50-round drum magazine and ammunition from a pawnshop in Jonesboro. Johnson replied "yes" to a question on a form asking whether she was the actual buyer of the gun.
Prosecutors say her boyfriend Marcus Wheeler, a convicted felon, gave her money and told her what to buy.
Police in Omaha say Wheeler fatally shot officer Kerrie Orozco on May 20 when he opened fire on officers trying to arrest him. Wheeler was killed when another officer returned fire.
Johnson pleaded guilty Wednesday and is to be sentenced Nov. 2.
