ODESSA, Texas (AP) — Construction delays have forced a West Texas school district to push back the start of classes at two high schools by more than two weeks.
The Ector County Independent School District on Tuesday announced classes at Permian High School and Odessa High School will begin Tuesday, Sept. 8. The rest of the district's schools will start as scheduled on Monday, Aug. 24.
Superintendent Tom Crowe blamed weather and delivery delays for upgrades and additional structures at the two high schools not being finished. Students at those campuses, to make up for the delayed start, will face school days running 25 minutes longer than initially planned.
Practices and games for Ector County ISD athletic teams will continue as originally scheduled.
