JAKARTA, Indonesia (AP) — Residents of an Indonesian village say they saw a plane crash into a mountain. That word comes after an Indonesian airliner carrying 54 people lost contact with ground control during a short flight in bad weather in the mountainous province of Papua. A search was suspended due to darkness and weather.

BEIRUT (AP) — Activists say air raids on a suburb of the Syrian capital have killed more than 50 and wounded scores. The Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights says the attack on a busy market in Douma killed 58 and wounded more than 200.

BAGHDAD (AP) — Iraqi officials say Islamic State militants have launched an attack against government troops outside the militant-held city of Fallujah, killing at least 17 troops. A police officer and an army officer say four suicide attackers drove military vehicles packed with explosives into government forces' barricades. Clashes broke out afterward.

WASHINGTON (AP) — Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump is outlining a foreign policy in which the United States would put ground troops in the fight against Islamic State militants and demand money from Middle East countries supported by the U.S. Trump tells NBC's "Meet the Press" that U.S. ground troops are key to reclaiming oil fields that fund the Islamic State group.

FORT WALTON BEACH, Fla. (AP) — An icon of the 1960s civil rights movement has died. The Southern Poverty Law Center says Julian Bond died last night in Fort Walton Beach, Florida after a brief illness. He was 75. Bond served as board chairman of the NAACP for 10 years. He also served in the Georgia state legislature and was a professor at American University and the University of Virginia.
