SPRINGFIELD, Mass. (AP) — A Massachusetts man is facing 18 charges after police say he forced his 10-year-old daughter out of the car while leading police on a chase, nearly striking her as he drove away.
The Republican newspaper reports (http://bit.ly/1gCmYd0 ) 28-year-old Gilberto Diaz pleaded not guilty to the charges this week. His lawyer did not comment on the charges.
Authorities say Diaz was wanted in the May 31 armed robbery of a Walgreen's when an off-duty detective spotted him driving in East Springfield on June 5.
Authorities say several police cars joined the chase and Diaz forced his daughter out of the car. She was uninjured.
Police say Diaz struck several police cars, caused three accidents and tossed packets of heroin out the window before he was captured.
