BOISE, Idaho (AP) — An Idaho official says the U.S. Department of Energy has given the state a two-month deadline to waive parts of an agreement to clean up nuclear waste at the Idaho National Laboratory in southeast Idaho or lose doing important research on spent nuclear fuel. The Idaho Department of Commerce Director says the federal agency plans to send a 2016 shipment elsewhere if it's not allowed into Idaho.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Idaho officials presented legal defenses in front of the Idaho Supreme Court over whether lucrative betting machines should remain legal in the state. In June, the Coeur d'Alene Tribe filed a petition protesting Gov. C.L. "Butch" Otter's veto of a bill that would have outlawed the machines. The tribe contends that Secretary of State Lawerence Denney should certify the bill as law because the governor didn't complete the veto within the constitutionally required five-day deadline.
BOISE, Idaho (AP) — Firefighters are trying to stop a 10-square-mile wildfire that's burning through primary sage grouse habitat in a remote part of southwest Idaho. Nearly 200 firefighters backed by 10 aircraft, 17 fire engines and six bulldozers are working to contain the fast-moving fire that started Monday morning. A U.S. Bureau of Land Management spokeswoman says the cause is under investigation.
MCCALL, Idaho (AP) — A 58-year-old southwest Idaho man has died at Brundage Mountain Resort in central Idaho near McCall in a mountain biking accident. Authorities say Leo Nill of Nampa died Saturday. A Brundage Mountain spokeswoman tells the Idaho Statesman that it's the first mountain biking fatality at the resort.
