BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — The North Dakota attorney general says the Bismarck Public School District should not have excluded certain information on a legal services bill without analyzing the material.
The issue came up after a representative of the North Dakota teachers union requested records relating to a certain law firm. The Bismarck district responded with statements that showed the number of hours worked and the amount of money billed by each attorney, but the descriptions of services were blocked out.
Attorney General Wayne Stenehjem says the district should have reviewed each description of services to determine whether it met the definition of work that would not have to be reported under open records laws.
Stenehjem ordered the district to review the records and provide a corrected version of the statements.
