NEW YORK (AP) — Pro Football Hall of Famer Frank Gifford has died. His family says the 84-year-old died suddenly of natural causes this morning at his Connecticut home. Gifford was the centerpiece of a New York Giants offense that went to five NFL title games in the 1950s and '60s. Beginning in 1971 he worked for ABC's "Monday Night Football," at first as a play-by-play announcer and then as an analyst. Later in life he stayed in the spotlight through his marriage to Kathie Lee Gifford.
HOUSTON (AP) — An arrest affidavit says all eight people found dead in a Houston-area home yesterday were shot in the head. The man charged with killing them, 49-year-old David Conley, is being held without bond. The affidavit was read in court today at a probable cause hearing says when Conley discovered that the locks had been changed at the house after he'd moved out, he entered the home through an unlocked window and killed the five children and three adults.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Los Angeles police are searching for a hit-and-run driver who ran off and left his family behind after allegedly causing a crash that injured seven people. Fire officials say the injured include a 1-month-old boy and 2-year-old boy. Officials say the suspect seen running from the scene last night is the driver believed to have caused the two-car crash.
AVALON PARK, Fla. (AP) — Thirteen people have been treated for carbon monoxide poisoning after a Walmart in central Florida was evacuated. Orange County Fire Rescue officials say the gas had reached unsafe levels overnight at the store in Avalon Park. Even fire officials had to wait several minutes to enter the building because the levels were too high. Seven of the people treated were taken to hospitals.
CAMARILLO, Calif. (AP) — The average price of gasoline has dropped 11 cents over the past two weeks to $2.71 a gallon. That's according to industry analyst Trilby Lundberg, who says the current average sits 81 cents below the year-ago price. She says California saw a 21-cent price drop over the past two weeks, following a huge spike caused by a brief supply shortage.
