NEW YORK (AP) — Pro Football Hall of Famer Frank Gifford has died. In a statement released by NBC News, his family said Gifford died suddenly this morning at his Connecticut home of natural causes. He was 84. Gifford was the NFL's Most Valuable Player in 1956 when he led the New York Giants to a league championship. He later had a successful second career as a broadcaster on "Monday Night Football."
TEQUESTA, Fla. (AP) — The families of two Florida boys who disappeared at sea last month are ending their search. The Coast Guard spent a full week looking for Perry Cohen and Austin Stephanos, who vanished while fishing July 24. The family then launched a private search for the 14-year-olds, with volunteers scouring waters off Georgia and the Carolinas by helicopter, plane and boat. They now say they've found no clues to guide the search so they're calling it off.
FERGUSON, Mo. (AP) — A march to mark the anniversary of the death of 18-year-old Michael Brown is underway in Ferguson, Missouri. The march started at the site where the black, unarmed 18-year-old was fatally shot by a white police officer a year ago today. Brown's father, Michael Brown Sr., is leading the march. He thanked supporters for not allowing his son to be forgotten.
ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — U.S. F-16 fighter jets have arrived at Turkey's Incirlik (IHN'-jur-lihk) Air Base. The U.S. European Command says the U.S. air force deployed a "small detachment" of six F-16s, support equipment and about 300 personnel to help in the fight against Islamic State militants. Turkey agreed last month to let the U.S. use the base, which is close to IS strongholds across the border in Syria.
JERUSALEM (AP) — Authorities in Israel say troops have killed a Palestinian who stabbed an Israeli in an attack in the West Bank. The military says the Israeli was injured in the attack today by a group of Palestinians. Tensions have been high since suspected Jewish extremists torched a Palestinian home in the West Bank last month, killing an 18-month-old toddler and his father. The mother and a 4-year-old boy are in critical condition.
