SEATTLE (AP) — It's been a bumpy year since Washington's first charter school opened in Seattle.
Among First Place Scholars' problems: Members of the board, its special-education coordinator and its school leader left. As a result, the school could not provide all the special education services required for about two dozen students qualified for those services.
The school and officials who oversee it say important changes have been made. They expect the second year to be smoother.
Eight other charter schools will open this year, and authorities say they can learn from First Place Scholars' growing pains.
