SPRINGDALE, Ark. (AP) — Arkansas Children's Hospital has announced plans to build a new campus in Springdale and officials there say the addition is part of a broader plan to expand pediatric services across the state.

The hospital revealed plans for the new facility Friday. It will be built on 37 acres donated by David and Cathy (George) Evans; Gary and Robin George and their families.

The proposed 225,000-square-foot facility includes 24 inpatient beds, and an emergency department/urgent care center with 21 exam rooms, among other features.

Hospital officials say estimates show the pediatric population in the northwest Arkansas region is growing two-to three-times faster than in any other part of the state, and at least 27 percent of the children in the region live in poverty and half grow up in low-income households.
