CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — Three years after he killed 12 people and left dozens more injured at a movie theater in Colorado, James Holmes' fate has been decided. The same jury that convicted Holmes of murder has reached a verdict that will be announced at 5 p.m. local time. The defense blamed the killings on Holmes's psychotic breakdown. The prosecution argued that the appropriate punishment is the death penalty. That would require a unanimous decision.
CONWAY, Ark. (AP) — Police in Arkansas say a 14-year-old boy shot and killed his grandparents during a robbery and murder scheme hatched while he and two other friends were held in a juvenile jail. The grandparents' bodies were dumped in a wooded area near their home in Conway. Justin Staton was charged as an adult with murder today along with 17-year-old Hunter Drexler.
NEW YORK (AP) — Donald Trump contends he was burned by Fox's moderator team in last night's presidential debates. Trump tweeted that that Bret Baier, Megyn Kelly and Chris Wallace were "not very good or professional." He also retweeted a message from a supporter who called Kelly a "bimbo." She pressed Trump about crude comments about women.
NEW YORK (AP) — State health teams will deploy to the Bronx to help collect and test samples from cooling towers amid a deadly outbreak of Legionnaires' disease. It has sickened at least 101 people. So far, 10 people have died since the outbreak surfaced last month, making it the deadliest in city history. The disease is a form of pneumonia caused by breathing in mist contaminated with the Legionella bacteria.
WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama has left Washington for a couple of weeks of vacation on the Massachusetts island of Martha's Vineyard. There are no public events planned. He's being accompanied by his wife, Michelle, and daughter Sasha -- and a few advisers. Last year's trip there was interrupted by developments in Iraq and racial unrest in Ferguson, Missouri.
