MIAMI (AP) — A South Florida woman has been reunited with her 80-pound pet tortoise after he escaped earlier this week and managed to get about a half-mile away.

Mary Schul told The Miami Herald (http://goo.gl/Cj2PDC ) she couldn't sleep Tuesday night after learning that her African sulcata, Zulu, had escaped from his metal cage behind her Hollywood home. But the next day, Schul posted pictures of Zulu on Facebook, and a short time later one of her friends called her about a Miramar police tweet trying to track down the owner of a lost tortoise.

A Miramar couple had spotted Zulu sitting on a sidewalk, so they took the tortoise home and called police to help find the owner.

Schul said Zulu was the size of her hand when she got him 18 years ago.
