STATE COLLEGE, Pa. (AP) — Penn State University has adopted a new shield logo for official use.
University officials unveiled the new design and stated the school's previous shield logo, introduced in the late 1980s, was overhauled to bring Penn State's image into the "21st century."
Philly.com reports (http://bit.ly/1HrKTBm ) the university shelled out $128,000 to Jerry Kuyper Partners for the design, which features the head of the iconic Nittany Lion statue.
The strategic design firm recently conducted redesigns for AT&T, Cigna, Cisco and the World Wildlife Fund.
Lawrence Lokman, Penn State's vice president for strategic communications, says the old logo didn't "translate well digitally."
University officials say various colleges and campuses created different variations of the logo, which led to a lack of branding cohesion.
