NEW YORK (AP) — Fox News Channel has announced the lineups for the Republican primary debates that will be staged Thursday in Cleveland. Ten candidates will square off in the prime-time debate at 9 p.m. But seven of the hopefuls will only get to participate in a pre-debate that will be held four hours earlier. Fox used recent polling data. CNN's Sept. 16 debate will also have two separate tiers, although the two forums will run back-to-back.

MIDDLETOWN, Calif. (AP) — More than 3,000 firefighters are attempting to make progress against a massive wildfire in Northern California that has been burning for a week. It has scorched more than 100 square miles in the Clear Lake area. Thousands have been required or urged to leave their homes, cabins and campsites. The fire is just 20 percent contained.

NEW DELHI (AP) — India's prime minister has tweeted that he is deeply pained by the loss of life from the derailment of two passenger trains. The crashes, which have killed at least 24 people, happened minutes apart on flooded tracks on a bridge in central India. Intense rains apparently caused a track to sink on a bridge over the same culvert.

JERUSALEM (AP) — Israel's defense minister has signed an order that will keep a Jewish extremist in jail for six months without charges or trial. So-called administrative detentions usually see Palestinian prisoners jailed for months or years without trial. A statement says Mordechai Meyer was arrested in connection with "violent activities and recent terror attacks." Extremists are suspected in an arson fire last week that killed a Palestinian toddler and severely injured his family.

CENTENNIAL, Colo. (AP) — Prosecutors in the Colorado theater shooting trial are expected to have more victims' family members testify Wednesday. They hope to convince jurors to decide that the punishment for James Holmes should be a death sentence. The last round of closing arguments could take place Thursday, and deliberations could begin Friday. The defense has argued that Holmes should be given a life sentence. The same jury convicted Holmes of killing 12 people in the 2012 attack in suburban Denver.
